Award-winning dog training and behaviour support in Teesside and North Yorkshire.

  • Dog training company of the year
  • Dog trainer of the year

We're incredibly proud to announce that Canine Connections Teesside has been named Dog Training Company of the Year at the Prestige Awards 2026!

This recognition is a huge milestone for our small, independent business and reflects the passion, dedication and hard work that goes into helping dogs and their owners build happier, more confident lives together.

For us, dog training has never been about simply teaching a dog to sit, stay or walk nicely on a lead. It's about understanding behaviour, building trust and giving owners the knowledge and confidence to navigate everyday life with their dogs.

To have that commitment recognised through an award is something we are incredibly grateful for.

A Passion for Helping Dogs and Their Owners

Canine Connections Teesside was founded by Joe Beech, a dedicated dog trainer and behaviourist with a particular passion for helping owners of reactive dogs.

What began as a passion for understanding canine behaviour has developed into a specialist dog training business supporting owners across Middlesbrough, Teesside and North Yorkshire.

Joe's approach is rooted in the belief that successful dog training should be practical, individualised and built around the relationship between the dog and their owner.

Every dog is different. Every owner faces different challenges. And Joe believes that training should reflect that.

Rather than offering a "one-size fits all" solution, we focus on understanding the reasons behind a dog's behaviour and helping owners develop the skills to make meaningful, lasting progress.

Specialising in Reactive Dog Training

One of the areas Canine Connections Teesside is passionate about is reactive dog training.

Living with a reactive dog can be incredibly challenging. Whether your dog barks or lunges at other dogs, struggles around unfamiliar people or becomes overwhelmed in busy environments, even something as simple as going for a walk can feel stressful.

We understand just how isolating that experience can be.

That's why we've made helping reactive dogs and their owners a central part of what we do.

Through our Reactivity Assessments and One-to-one Behaviour Training, we help owners better understand their dogs, develop practical handling skills and work towards calmer, more manageable everyday experiences.

Our focus isn't on forcing dogs into situations that they are uncomfortable with or experiencing overnight transformations.

It is about making progress at the dog's pace, building confidence in dogs and their owners, and giving owners the tools to continue that progress long after their training sessions.

Meet Our Stooge Dogs: An Essential Part of Reactive Dog Training

One of the things that makes Canine Connections Teesside different is the important role our own dogs play in helping us assess, understand and work with reactive behaviour.

Our specially selected and trained stooge dogs are an invaluable part of our reactivity assessments and training sessions, allowing us to create controlled, real-life encounters with other dogs in a safe, structured environment.

When working with a reactive dog, understanding why they react is just as important as understanding how they react. Barking, lunging, growling and other reactive behaviours can stem from a variety of underlying emotions and motivations, including fear, frustration, excitement or uncertainty.

By carefully introducing our stooge dogs at appropriate distances, Joe can observe a dog's body language, responses and ability to cope with the presence of another dog. This helps him identify potential triggers, recognise early signs of discomfort and develop an individualised training plan tailored to that dog's needs.

Our stooge dogs aren't there to provoke reactions. They're there to help us understand and prevent them.

Unlike unpredictable encounters with unfamiliar dogs in public, working with our stooge dogs gives us greater control over the training environment. We can manage distance, movement and exposure, allowing dogs to learn at a pace they're comfortable with while prioritising the welfare of every dog involved.

Our stooge dogs also play an important role in helping owners build confidence. Rather than simply watching Joe handle their dog, owners are actively involved in the training process, learning to recognise body language, respond appropriately and develop the skills needed to navigate everyday situations.

For many owners, these controlled encounters are an important first step towards enjoying calmer, more manageable walks.

At Canine Connections Teesside, our stooge dogs are much more than training assistants. They're an essential part of helping reactive dogs and their owners build confidence, understanding and trust.

Real-Life Training for Real-Life Challenges

We believe dog training should work where it matters most: in everyday life.

It's one thing for a dog to perform beautifully in a quiet training environment. It's another for that training to translate into busy streets, local parks and real-world situations.

That's why our training combines controlled environments with practical, real-life experiences.

From puppy development and lead walking to recall, reactivity and behaviour issues, our services are designed to help owners build reliable skills that they can use outside of the training field.

Our training services include:

  • Reactivity Assessments: Individualised assessments to understand reactive behaviour and develop a practical training plan. Working on reactivity within the assessment and providing the owners with detailed training to work on between sessions.

  • One-to-One Dog Training: Personalised support for behaviour challenges, obedience and everyday training.

  • Puppy Neutrality Classes: Helping puppies develop confidence, engagement and appropriate responses to the world around them.

Whether you are struggling with a reactive dog or simply want to give your puppy the best possible start, our goal remains the same: to help you understand your dog and enjoy life together.

What Winning Dog Training Company of the Year Means to Joe

As a small business, receiving this award means an incredible amount.

Behind Canine Connections Teesside are countless hours spent working with dogs, supporting owners, continuing professional development and constantly looking for ways to improve the services we provide.

But what makes this recognition particularly special is the people and dogs we have met along the way.

Every owner who has trusted us with their dog, every message sharing a training breakthrough and every small victory we've celebrated together has helped to shape this business.

From owners who once dreaded walking their reactive dogs to those building stronger relationships with their puppies, being part of those journeys is why we do what we do.

This award is a proud moment for the business, but the progress our clients make will always be the greatest achievement.

Thank You for Supporting Canine Connections Teesside

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Canine Connections Teesside.

To our clients, past and present, thank you for trusting us, putting in the work and allowing us to be part of your dogs' journeys.

To everyone who has recommended our services, shared our posts, left a review or supported our small business in any way, we genuinely appreciate it.

And, of course, a special mention goes to the dogs who help make our training possible, including our own stooge dogs, who play an important role in creating controlled training opportunities for reactive dogs.

We're incredibly excited about the future and look forward to continuing to support more dogs and owners across Teesside and North Yorkshire!
